University of Chester

At the University of Chester PDSL carried out a full refurbishment strip on a four-storey building in preparation for its conversion. This included the removal of two lifts, two atomic blast proof rooms as well as the removal of all mechanical plant and associated pipework from the roof. Large sections of pipework were removed from the 20 metre external risers leaving them ready to receive new. Furthermore, all fume cabinets and associated ducting had to be decontaminated and removed before being disposed of. The project required a significant amount of labour input and had to be precisely planned and coordinated.

University of Sheffield

At the University of Sheffield’s Frederick Mappin building as part of the Heart Space Project being undertaken by Interserve Construction Limited PDSL demolished several buildings in the centre of a courtyard surrounded by grade one listed buildings. As well as this PDSL removed two bridges that were adjoining these buildings while simultaneously carrying out internal structural demolition and lead paint removal works. The work was carried out in a way that ensured no dust from the buildings being demolished entered the streets of the surrounding area accommodated by students.

Leeds city college print-works campus

PDSL was instructed to carry out demolition in several areas of the site this included; the removal of 2 wooden floors supported by steel joists, a large section of roofing with a glass atrium frame as well as external timber roof trusses and associated cast iron guttering. This was all done while taking care not to cause any damage to the grade 2 listed Print Hall building. Alongside this work PDSL carried out the removal of lead based paint from the internal walls of the building which covered approximately 2000 square metres. All the lead paint was required to be removed under strict conditions while wearing full face respiratory protective equipment (RPE).

British Home Stores, White Rose Centre

Quick turnaround project at the British Home Stores, White Rose Centre, Leeds. PDSL carried out a complete refurbishment strip out of the store in just 6 weeks including the removal of the two external canopies, three shop fronts and the mechanical plant on the roof as well as removing the full front elevation of the store. The canopies and much of the plant on the roof was crane-lifted through the night after being prepared by operatives through the day. The remaining roof plant was cut into pieces and taken through the building.
